Hoquiam woman awakes to burglar going through her nightstand

HOQUIAM, Wash. - A Hoquiam woman awoke to an intruder going through her nightstand Friday morning, when she yelled at him to leave he hit her. When she fought back with a lamp, he ran.
Deputy Chief Don Wertanen tells us around 5:45 Friday morning, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Chenault Avenue for a burglary which had just occurred.

An 82-year old woman was woken up by a male intruder going through her night stand while she was asleep in bed. The woman yelled at the male to get out. The male struck the woman in the face and she fought back striking him with a lamp. The male then fled from the house on foot.

Officers set up a perimeter and attempted a canine track with assistance from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office. The track did not locate the male suspect, but evidence was located along the suspect’s route.

The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital the Hoquiam Fire Department ambulance and was later released.
