HOQUIAM, Wash. - Kids in Hoquiam may actually look forward to their next encounter with the “Heat” thanks to a program developed by 7-Eleven Stores that rewards positive behavior with a very cool treat.

Through Operation Chill, Hoquiam Officers will “ticket” youngsters that they observe doing something helpful with a Slurpee coupon Five-hundred free Slurpee coupons will be issued through the summer months until school starts in the fall.

Since the program’s inception in 1996, more than 10 million Operation Chill coupons have been distributed to hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the country in the areas where 7-Eleven operates stores.  This is 3rd summer police have used the Operation Chill program to reward the youth for their good deeds as well as enhance their relations with the young people of Hoquiam.

The coupons are great for officers who are on patrol in the community, says Sgt. Wertanen.  “It’s an icebreaker”, a way to encourage dialogue in a non-threatening, non law-enforcement situation.
