ELMA, Wash. - This Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway a ASA Member Track located at the Fairgrounds in Elma, Harbor Pacific Bottling distributors of Mountain Dew and AMP Energy along with Cut Rate Auto Parts will bring to you the DAA Northwest Spec Motor Late Model Series presented by Sherwin Williams and the Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby/Street Stock Challenge that will bring cars from all over the Northwest. Other classes that will be in action include the Shipwreck Beads Modifieds and Hornets.
The DAA Northwest Spec Motor Late Model Series presented by Sherwin Williams will make their seventh start in the 22 race series at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday Night in the first of two stops on the fast 3/8’s mile clay oval this year. Many time Sunset Speedway Park Champion and current points leader Greg Walters from Banks, Oregon will lead the way. Walters can expect tough competition from several drivers including Brownsville, Oregon star driver and many time Willamette Speedway Outlaw Late Model Champion Russ Sell, Sell trails Walters by 5 points 222 to 217.
Last year’s Northwest Spec Motor Series Champion Jason Wines from Lebanon sit is third place with 203 points, closely followed by Brady Sell with 202 points. Rounding out the top five is Scio, Oregon driver Steve Moore, Moore was one of the two winners last year at Grays Harbor Raceway. Other drivers expected to compete include Vancouver, Washington drivers Jerry and Jimmy Schram and the father son team of Jeff and Brandon Biffle, along with Oregon drivers, Terry Ferrando, Billy Workman Jr., Brett James, Britton Donahoo, Scott Puncochar, Kris Pickle and Brittany Ray.
The Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby/Street Stock Challenge will be the first race of a four race series between Grays Harbor Raceway and Sunset Speedway in Banks, Oregon. Drivers from both tracks will be looking to win the series, local drivers heading up the charge include three time Track Champion and current points leader Zack Simpson from Aberdeen, Tom Sweatman from Cosmopolis, Aberdeen’s Jack Parshall Jr., Olympia Drivers Eddie Blood and Brian Izzi along with Gig Harbor’s Derek Junell. Sunset Speedway drivers looking for the win include Collen Winebarger a 14 year old Rookie who sits in second place in the point standings at Sunset Speedway, along with the Sayre brothers Sonny and Wes from Portland,and Dennis Krohling from Vancouver.
In the Shipwreck Beads Modified Division the first three positions are all held by former Modifed Champions. Shelton’s Scott Miller leads 2009 Champion Josh Muller by 25 points 562 to 537, Seabeck’s Craig Moore holds down third with 486 points. The next two positions are held by two drivers doing a outstanding job, Jim Oien Jr from McCleary with 476 points and Del Schnitzer with 471 points.
In the Hornet division Chehalis driver Aaron Rockey picked up the win last week in a great battle with Tyson Blood, Brian Izzi, Rory Clevenger and Cliff Gill. The Hornet class saw another great field of 16 cars start the main event last week.
